🍃 Directors Take – A Green Turn

Hey hey, heroes! 💫 It’s your friendly neighborhood tank main here—fresh off a 5-win streak and way too much time spent on the practice range—coming at you with some thoughts on the latest Director’s Take from Alec.

This one’s less about juicy leaks and more about vibes—And it actually gave me a ton to think about.

🌿 The Overwatch Devs Are… Gardeners?

Yes. Really. Alec shared a metaphor that’s now living rent-free in my brain: the devs see themselves as groundskeepers of a living garden. 🌼🌿

“We trim the hedges, pull the weeds, and right the walking paths so we’re all headed in the same direction.”

Translation: While they’re adding new stuff like Perks and Stadium, they’re also making sure the core of Overwatch stays balanced, fun, and thriving.

You can’t just plant new flowers without watering the ones already there, y’know? 🌸✨

🔁 Reasons to Come Back, Reasons to Stay

This part hit me hard. Each season isn’t just supposed to wow us with new stuff—it’s also supposed to feel better than the last.

🧡 “We want to make sure the rest of the ecosystem has improved.”

That means Hero refinement, Ranked tuning, and progression upgrades are just as important as flashy new modes. So when you log in after a break and everything feels smoother? Yep, that’s intentional.

Whether it’s buffing tanks, reworking maps, or tuning queue systems, the goal is clear: make Overwatch fun, sustainable, and exciting to return to. 💚

This kind of long-term vision makes me super hopeful—especially as someone who’s been here since Rein was the only shield tank we ever needed (RIP double shield… actually, no, not RIP 😅).

Oh, and fun fact: Seasons at the start of the year (like Season 9 and 15) are always planned to be huge shifts, while mid-year seasons (like Season 18) focus more on core improvements.

🗺️ What’s Coming Soon? Let’s Break It Down

Here’s what you can expect in Season 17 and 18:

  • 🗳️ Map Voting – Finally, a way to avoid that one map your whole squad groans about. (👀 Looking at you, New Junk City.)
  • 🗺️ New Flashpoint map: Aatlis – Designed with lessons learned from previous maps.
  • 🔧 Suravasa + New Junk City reworks – Coming in the second half of Season 17.
  • 💥 Perks overhaul in Season 18 – All heroes get new toys! Major Perks will feel way more powerful and meaningful.
  • 🧠 Hero Bans + Map Voting – These systems help inform future reworks based on what you choose to play (or avoid).

🌱 It’s Not Just About New Stuff – It’s About Healthy Growth

Alec’s big message was this:

“New content is fantastic, but it’s vitally important that we create an environment where that content can do well.”

That’s such a comforting vibe. 🥹

The devs are paying close attention to what’s working, what’s not, and how all parts of Overwatch can work together. Whether it’s a shiny new mode or just a smoother Ranked experience, the whole ecosystem matters.

💕 Final Thoughts

This Director’s Take may not have had big reveals or new hero hype, but it gave us something even more important: a look at the heart behind Overwatch’s evolution.

It’s not about endless new features. It’s about making sure this world we all love—whether you’re boosting your team in Valkyrie or blocking 3 ults with a perfectly timed Rein shield—keeps growing in the right direction.

So yeah, bring on the map votes and bring on the Perks revamp!
