Hey heroes! Just caught the latest Weekly Recall from the Overwatch dev team, and trust me—there’s a lot to be excited about. Scott from the hero design team gave us a behind-the-scenes peek at how balance changes happen and what’s coming in Season 17. 👀

📊 Data, Feelings, and Freja’s Flaming Ban Rate
The devs are obsessed with data. And that’s a good thing. From win rates to hero bans, they look at everything to figure out which heroes are overpowered, underwhelming, or just plain annoying to play against.
Freja’s a great example. When she first launched, she wasn’t doing too hot, so they gave her buffs. Fast forward a few weeks and—boom—she’s suddenly the most banned hero above Diamond. 😅
To fix that, they made some careful nerfs:
- 🔁 Longer cooldowns on Quick Dash and Updraft
- 🐢 Slower reload speed to cut down on spam damage
She’s still strong, just not pull-your-hair-out strong anymore. Win and ban rates are stabilizing, which means… the nerfs worked!
👾 Sombra’s Still Slippery…
Sombra is another high-ban hero across both PC and console. She hasn’t been touched yet, but the devs confirmed that she’s being looked at.
She’s tricky to balance (surprise), but they’re working on it. No ETA, but she’s on the radar. 🔍
⚙️ Game-Wide Changes Are Coming Too!
Season 17 is bringing more than just hero adjustments—it’s shaking up some core mechanics:
- 💥 Damage Role Passive: Healing reduction is getting bumped from 25% to 30%, giving DPS players a little more power against strong supports.
- ⏱️ Health Regen Delay: Time to start healing after taking damage is increasing from 5 to 6 seconds, making every bit of damage count more.
These are small numbers with big impact—especially in tight fights where healing is nonstop.
🤖 Smol Bastion = Big Mood
Okay, this one made me smile. When Scott joined the hero design team, his first pitch was: “What if Bastion was just… smaller?” 😂
Turns out, that actually helped. Bastion’s big model makes him super easy to hit, so to help with survivability:
Bastion’s size will be reduced by 10% in Season 17.
They tested 15% but said it made him too cute. I demand a nendoroid immediately. 🥺
🐰 D.Va´s Mythic Skin
D.Va will receive a stunning Mythic skin inspired by South Korea’s national animal, the Siberian Tiger. Available options include a pigtail style, a flowing long-haired look, and a twin braided loop style.
This was shown off in one of Overwatch Spotlight videos.
🔧 What Else is Coming in Season 17?
Here’s a quick rundown of other changes arriving on June 24:
- 🪓 Junker Queen: Commanding Shout now gives Overhealth to allies more consistently.
- 🚀 Pharah: Helix Shields are getting some polish to feel smoother.
- 🌸 Lifeweaver: Cleansing Grasp is being fine-tuned for better responsiveness.
- 🐰D.Va Mythic Skin🔥🔥🔥🔥
Just a bunch of solid quality-of-life changes to round out the season.

It’s always great seeing the Overwatch devs be so transparent about how balance decisions happen. It’s not just stats—it’s also about how fun and fair the game feels.
From Freja’s aerial spam to Bastion’s massive hitbox, every change shows how deeply the team cares about getting things right.
Season 17 drops June 24—and I’m hyped. Bring on the tiny Bastion, the buffed Junker Queen, and (maybe?) a better Sombra meta. And ofcourse the VERY cool D.Va mythic skin!!!
