Best Tank Perks Helping You to Victory!
🛡️ Calling all tank mains! Time to suit up and get cozy with your perks! 💪✨ If you want to be the shield your team can count on and snag some juicy picks, it all starts with picking the right perks.
With Overwatch’s 5v5 format putting even more spotlight on tanks (yes, you’re the star now 🌟), it’s super important to choose perks that help you make big plays, take smart fights, and y’know… not explode instantly.
Some perks give you a satisfying little boom, others let you survive way longer than anyone expects (like, how are you still alive??), and a few are just… kinda there…😅
This guide is here to break down the best perk combos for each tank hero—stuff that actually works when the match is on the line, not just what sounds OP. We got you. 💖

D.Va Perks
Ejection Suit & Heavy Rockets
If you’re picking perks for D.Va, the smartest choice is Ejection Suit. It gives 75 temporary over health when her mech breaks or when she pops her ult. 🧍🏻♀️That means more baby D.Va action and way more chances to annoy your enemies by surviving when they thought they got you. 😉✨
Now, Bunny Stomp 🐇 might sound fun (and it kind of is), but it’s really more of a pick for some funny moments. But in serious matches? Not so much. People in higher ranked games already know to get out of the way when Hana is getting into her mech.
Her major perk, Heavy Rockets is the way to go! Fewer micro missiles but more damage and a bigger impact! This means way more consistent hits and nice burst damage. Shield System does work in niche comps, but let’s be real, go with the rockets! 🚀

Doomfist Perks
One-Two & Power Block Matrix
Doom mains, we got you. The best minor perk here is One-Two. 👊🏻 Land a Rocket Punch and bam—your hand cannon is instantly reloaded. It’s like giving Doomfist a second combo right away, which is amazing for tank busting or deleting a squishy.
The other minor perk, Survival of the Fittest, gives a tiny bit of overhealth per elimination. It can stack, but unless you’re dominating the lobby, it won’t do much.
Major perk? Power Block Matrix is the star. ⭐ It gives Doom a brief window of immunity from projectiles, basically turning him into a mobile wall for a second. Seismic Empowerment looks cool on paper, but relies on very specific situations to work.

Hazard Perks
Off the Top & Deep Leap
Hazard might not be the most popular tank, but he’s got some perks worth shouting about. Off the Top gives extra damage to anyone chunky—tanks and big DPS included. That’s almost always valuable. Reconstitution has potential but is kinda hard to rely on.
Major perk winner is definitely Deep Leap. 🏃♂️ With 20% more leap range, Hazard can escape, chase, and rejoin fights faster. And who doesn’t love flying around more? Anarchic Zeal, which gives lifesteal during block, sounds cool but doesn’t really heal enough to matter.

Mauga Perks
Two Hearts & Firewalker
Mauga players – Go for Two Hearts every time.💕 It makes him count as two players on objectives and heals him while standing there. Very tanky. Kinetic Bandolier reloads ammo during his charge, but it only really matters once or twice a game.
When it comes to majors, Firewalker is your spicy option. 🔥 It burns enemies as Mauga runs through them, and that sets up crits super nicely. Combat Fuel is more for tank duels where you’re always shooting, but for most players, Firewalker is the better vibe.

Junker Queen
Battle Shout & Savage Satiation
Junker Queen actually has two decent minor perks, but Battle Shout💢 is the more obvious pick. When she uses Commanding Shout, her scattergun instantly reloads and allies get a 50% reload speed buff. It’s a great perk for pushing and maintaining pressure. That instant reload often gives you a damage edge that adds up fast.
Deep Wounds makes a big difference during extended fights or duels, due to it´s stacking effect. When you shoot someone with the scattergun, the wound effect they already have gets extended by 0.5 seconds per shot – BUT it also STACKS. It also interacts with her ultimate, Rampage, by extending the anti-heal effect on enemies hit by the blade.
However as cool as that is, Savage Satiation is usually the better major. With this perk, every time you hit someone with Carnage, you instantly heal for 105 health per target. That’s huge for surviving brawls and snowballing kills. It fits Queen’s aggressive, in-your-face playstyle perfectly.
But if you’re up against a lot of sustain or you’re looking to draw out fights, Deep Wounds can absolutely carry its own weight. 💘

Wrecking Ball
Pack Rat & Transfer Efficiency
Wrecking Ball’s perk options both bring serious value, but they offer very different playstyles.
Steamroller increases roll damage to tanks by 100%. 🏐 It’s great when you’re constantly clashing with frontline tanks and can hit them during rotations. However – in most matches, Ball isn’t supposed to be focusing tanks, this limits this perk’s usefulness overall. While the other minor perk Pack Rat 🐀 will be useful in every match, making health packs heal 100 more HP. If you’re playing fast and independently (as most Ball players do), this perk helps you get back into the fight way faster. Less downtime, more pressure. It’s also great for stalling objectives.
Now for the major perks and this is where the decision gets tough.
Hang Time makes Piledriver hit harder (up to 50% more damage) and gives you more air control before landing. It’s awesome for setting up combos, softening squishies, and spiking grouped enemies.
But Transfer Efficiency is the better pick if you want consistent impact in every team fight. It shortens the cooldown of Adaptive Shields by 1.5 seconds per ally affected, and increases the healing each one gives by 33%. ❤️🩹 That adds up fast when you’re diving into a packed team. You get shields more often, and they heal you more—this keeps you alive longer while contesting points or disrupting backlines helping you be the truly annoying Hammond to the enemy team!
Transfer Efficiency definitely wins because of it´s flexibility. Supporting your survivability across all match types, whether you’re pushing payload, contesting space, or looking to cause chaos!

Sigma
Kinetic Cycle & Levitation
Sigma’s best minor is Kinetic Cycle, which lowers your rock cooldown by absorbing projectiles. ☄️That’s just more crowd control, more often. Massive Impact is cool if you hit those long-range rocks, but not everyone’s got sniper aim.
Major pick? Levitation,🛸 no question. Double jump to high ground, peek over ledges, be a floaty menace. Hyper Strike is flashy and gives you a mega boop after a few hits, but it’s a bit harder to play around.

Winston
Heavy Landing & Chain Lightning
Winston’s perks turn him into either a better brawler or a sneaky mid-range damage dealer, depending on what you pick. For minor perks, Heavy Landing is the go-to. It increases Jump Pack’s damage and radius while airborne, making your engages hit harder and giving you more value out of Primal Rage as well. 🐒 lets go Ape! It’s great for softening up squishies before you commit or for adding that extra burst to secure a kill on landing.
The alternative, Short Circuit, increases Tesla Cannon damage against deployable objects. It’s okay against heavy shield comps or turrets, but those matchups aren’t consistent enough to make it worth taking over the utility you get from Heavy Landing.
As for major perks, Chain Lightning ⚡is where Winston really shines. It allows his charged secondary fire to bounce between up to two additional targets. This turns Winston into a surprising poke threat in neutral phases and helps him farm ult charge faster before diving. It also adds value when enemies are grouped, letting you soften multiple targets without overcommitting.
Rejuvenating Barrier -🛡️Winston’s other major, gives healing inside the bubble—30 health per second. It’s decent when you’re playing slow, holding space, or protecting supports. But most of the time, teams break the bubble too quickly for the healing to make a big difference. Unless you’re anchoring on payload or defending tight spaces, Chain Lightning gives more value overall, especially if you like to rotate in and out of fights or build Primal quickly.

Reinhardt
Crusaders Resolve & Shield Slam
Reinhardt’s perk choices are all about increasing his staying power and improving his frontline presence. His best minor perk is Crusader’s Resolve, which lets his passive healing activate 50% sooner while holding up his shield. 🛡️ This makes a big difference when you’re regrouping after a charge, tanking damage, or holding space for your team. It helps Rein stay topped up in those small windows where every bit of healing matters.
The alternative, FURY Uptake, heals Reinhardt’s barrier based on Fire Strike damage. It sounds useful, but in practice, it doesn’t restore enough shield health to shift momentum or prevent breaks. It’s simply outclassed by the more consistent value of Crusader’s Resolve.
For his major perks, Shield Slam 🛡️⚔️ is the stronger pick in most situations. It lets Rein swing while shielding and knocks enemies back slightly with each hit. This adds extra pressure in close-quarters brawls and helps stop flankers or dive heroes from sneaking behind your team. It also has great synergy with Rein’s playstyle—holding space and smacking anyone who gets too close.
Crushing Victory, which grants overhealth based on charge damage, can be strong too—but only if you’re landing charges often. Against mobile or well-positioned teams, that’s not always possible. On maps where you have reliable charge paths or enemies that are easy to pin, it becomes more viable. Otherwise, Shield Slam just fits into more scenarios and adds steady value in every fight.

Zarya
Jump Jets & Spotter
Zarya’s best perk setup offers a surprising mix of mobility and utility. Her standout minor perk is Jump Jets, which increases knockback from her secondary fire, allowing her to rocket jump. 💫 This lets Zarya reach high ground, reposition quickly, or escape sticky situations—something she normally struggles with. It’s a huge upgrade on maps with verticality and turns her into a more mobile and versatile tank.
For her major perk, Spotter tends to be the best all-around option. When you bubble an ally, it triggers health regeneration and boosts their movement speed by 15%. This is especially good when supporting fast-moving heroes like Genji or Reaper, or when peeling for your backline. It gives Zarya a more active role in supporting teammates, especially in dive or hybrid comps.
Energy Lance,💥 the other major perk, gives her beam the ability to pierce enemies when she’s over 50 energy. It’s very strong in tight chokepoints or against grouped enemies, but its value drops off in barrier-heavy or spread-out comps. In most ranked games, Spotter provides more consistent impact and team utility, making it the safer pick overall.

Roadhog
Scrap Hook & Invigorate
Roadhog’s perks are all about improving his burst combos and making him less sluggish. The best minor perk is Scrap Hook, 🪝 which refunds 2 ammo after landing a hook. It’s simple but powerful, letting you follow up without awkward reloads—especially helpful in 1v1s or close-range duels.
Hog Toss now does more damage and increases Pigpen’s throw range, making it a better pick than before. Still, it’s more situational, and Scrap Hook offers more consistent value across all matchups.
For major perks, Invigorate 🐷 is the clear winner. It gives Roadhog 30% bonus movement speed during Take a Breather, which helps him reposition, escape, or chase down targets more effectively. It’s a huge quality-of-life boost for a tank that often struggles with mobility.
Hydrogen Exposure, which heals nearby allies during Breather, can be nice in grouped comps, but it’s much less useful if you’re playing Hog more independently. Invigorate just fits better into how most players use him.

Ramattra
Void Surge & Vengeful Vortex or Nanite Repair
Ramattra’s best minor perk is Void Surge,🌑 which adds bursts of six extra projectiles during sustained fire. It gives him extra poke damage and helps build ult charge faster, making it useful in almost any fight.
For major perks, Nanite Repair is ideal for brawling. It heals Ramattra for 50 health per second while inside Ravenous Vortex, giving him more sustain during close-range engagements and tank duels.
Vengeful Vortex 🌌 is the better pick for ranged control. It lets you detonate the vortex mid-air for damage and a pull, making it great for disrupting movement and zoning enemies on high ground.
Both perks are strong—Nanite Repair for survivability and Vengeful Vortex for utility. Pair either with Void Surge for consistent pressure across all match types.

Orisa
Heat Dissipator & Charged Javelin
Orisa’s perks boost her ability to control space and outlast enemies. Her best minor perk is Heat Dissipator, which refunds heat when landing headshots with her primary fire. If you have decent aim, this perk gives you much more uptime and lets you keep pressure on without overheating. It pairs well with her zoning role and rewards consistent aim.
Fleeting Bulwark 🐮 gives 100 overhealth when Fortify is activated. It can help in bursty situations or if you’re getting dove, but it offers less overall value unless you’re under constant pressure.
For her major perk, Charged Javelin 🗡️ is the best pick. It increases Energy Javelin’s speed, knockback, and lets it pierce enemies. This makes it easier to hit and disrupts grouped targets, opening up plays or environmental kills.
Protective Barrier can work in comps with low shield pressure, but it’s usually broken too fast to be worth it. For most matchups, Heat Dissipator and Charged Javelin give Orisa the most consistent impact.
Final thoughts: Perk up and Tank up!
There you go—every tank, every perk, and all the tea you need to stop dying and start making plays that actually tilt the enemy team. Whether you’re slamming down with Winston or rolling deep with Ball, the right perks seriously do make a difference.
The meta might shift, some perks might get buffed (or nerfed into the floor), but knowing what works right now gives you the upper hand in ranked and even in casual lobbies.
So dive in, equip the good stuff and get those wins!
