🫶🏻 A Growing Movement Within Blizzard
Blizzard’s Team 4 takes a major step toward workplace protections
Hello Heroes! Something positive has happened behind the scenes!
The development team behind Overwatch 2 has formally unionized, joining the Communications Workers of America (CWA) to form the Overwatch Gamemakers Guild. Nearly 200 employees across a range of disciplines—art, design, QA, and engineering—are part of the union. This makes them the second major team at Blizzard to unionize, following World of Warcraft developers in 2023.
❣️ Why the Union Was Formed
This move didn’t come out of nowhere. After waves of layoffs hit Activision Blizzard in early 2024, including parts of the Overwatch 2 team, morale took a hit. The sudden loss of coworkers, combined with a lack of transparency, pushed many developers to take action. Concerns about job security, inconsistent pay, and remote work limitations added fuel to the fire. 🔥
🫂 Standing Together for Fairness
This union is not just a response to recent cuts—it’s about long-term change. Developers want clear protections around work hours, severance, and compensation. They’re also looking to be included in conversations about emerging tech like generative AI. These aren’t just workplace perks—they’re the foundations of a fair and respectful environment.

💙 Support From the Community
As Overwatch fans, we’ve always looked up to the heroes in the game—but now, we’re cheering for the heroes behind the scenes too. 😊 We want our developers and creators to be happy, supported, and secure in their roles. When the people who build the game are cared for, the game itself thrives.
💫 A Turning Point for Overwatch 2
Seasonal updates, big collaborations, and creative gameplay ideas like the new Stadium mode keep the game fresh—but it’s the developers who make those things happen. With a union in place, the team has a better shot at long-term stability and creativity. While negotiating their first contract may take time, the foundation has been set.
🌟 Looking Forward With Hope
This isn’t just about preventing layoffs or improving working conditions—it’s about creating a healthier studio culture where people are heard. Unionizing doesn’t fix everything, but it’s a strong and hopeful step. Fans and developers alike want a future where Overwatch 2 is built with joy, safety, and care. 🛠️💛
💕 A Gentle Reminder
In a game all about working together as a team, it’s fitting that the developers are doing the same in real life. It’s serious work—but we’re here to cheer them on.
Let us all have their backs through this change!💼🐱💖
