All About The Heroes 44 & 45!
Hey heroes!💫 With Overwatch 2’s Season 16 nearly here, all eyes are on Freja, the newest hero joining the roster—but that hasn’t stopped fans (including me!) from getting very excited about what’s coming next. Let’s talk about the two newest names on the radar: Hero 44, aka Aqua, and the mysterious, sword-swinging Hero 45.
🌊 Hero 44: Aqua, The Waterbender We’ve Been Waiting For
Blizzard has officially revealed Hero 44, codenamed Aqua, in some early artwork and preview materials—and he’s looking so cool already. Aqua is a Chinese hero who wields water-based abilities designed to manipulate the battlefield in brand new ways.
According to Blizzard:
“Aqua is a Chinese hero, wielding water-based abilities that can manipulate the battlefield with an innovative playstyle.”

We’ll get the full breakdown on his kit closer to his release in Season 18, but early vibes suggest a versatile hero with fluid movement, clever zoning, and maybe some healing or defensive utility? Honestly, we love a water-themed hero who brings both calm and chaos.
And let’s be real: Overwatch + elemental powers = a total win.
⚔️ Hero 45: Who Is the Sword-Wielding Mystery?
While Aqua’s soaking up the spotlight, Hero 45 is the one causing whispers across the community. Blizzard hasn’t officially dropped their name yet, but that hasn’t stopped players from gathering clues like overwatch detectives.
First hint? A silhouette seen in a Stadium playtest, standing proudly next to the Roman numerals XLV (that’s 45, of course). Also featured? A massive sword. We’re talking Big Sword Energy™. This teaser alone had the community buzzing, but things only got juicier.
Reddit user P3runaama shared images from the Spotlight stream that included:
- A doodle of a long-haired knight holding a sword
- A statue labeled “Magnus” in Colosseo, looking very much like said knight

The theory? Hero 45 might actually be Magnus, a gladiator-like character from the Overwatch world—possibly tied to the Colosseo lore.
Game director Aaron Keller even hinted at the possibility of a melee hero in a stream, saying it’s “definitely something we’re looking at,” and while melee heroes are tricky, they “have a route to do that.” Sooo… big sword? Melee playstyle? Gladiator theme? Check, check, and check.
Oh, and let’s not forget that sneaky bit of placeholder text spotted by OWCavalry:
“Gladiators Gonna Gladiate.”
Yes, Blizzard. We see what you’re doing. And we love it.
Final Thoughts
The Overwatch 2 hero lineup is looking so good right now. With Freja’s railgun sass in Season 16, Aqua’s hydro kinesis in 18, and Hero 45’s mysterious melee mayhem on the horizon—we’re feasting, y’all.
Got theories? Spot something in the dev art that we missed? Toss your thoughts on the payload (or in the comments). 🛠️💬
See you in the queue, heroes! 💙⚔️🌊
Swwooorrrrrdddd herooooo
As an Italian, I’m so happy to see an Italian hero. I’m even happier to see that they won’t be a Mafia stereotype. A gladiator is absolutely perfect, and having them be a Tank and carry a big sword? I’m already loving this. But the icing on the cake is the seeming connection to (and possibly inspiration from) Lupa, the wolf who raised Romolo and Remo, the twin brothers and competed to build a city, with Romolo winning and building Rome. This is excellent inspiration! I wouldn’t be surprised if this hero is female, which I would greatly enjoy. I also hope that this is a more heroic Tank, as the last time we got a Tank that wasn’t evil or morally grey was Orisa.
