Wu Yang’s 4-day hero trial is officially live from Thursday, August 14th to Monday, August 18th, giving players a first taste of the new support before his full release on Tuesday, August 26th in Season 18. KarQ has broken down every ability, perk, and sneaky combo you can pull off this weekend — and there’s a lot to unpack.

Xuanwu Staff – Primary Fire

Wu Yang’s main weapon fires 20-round water orbs that deal:

  • 30 damage single-target (10 on impact + 20 splash)
  • Splash damage scales to 15 at max radius

Hold to charge and you’ll pump out:

  • 100 damage single-target (30 impact + 70 splash, scaling to ~20 at max range)
  • A bigger explosion radius and a forgiving splash for clumped enemies — think Zarya Graviton follow-ups
  • Slight knockback on explosion
  • Charged orbs can be guided for up to 2.5 seconds, curving around walls and corners (but they always move forward — no boomerang tricks here)

Restorative Stream – Secondary Fire

A passive healing tether that:

  • Heals 25 HP/s passively (lower than Zenyatta’s 35 HP/s)
  • Can be actively boosted to +50 HP/s for a total of 75 HP/s
  • Boosted healing drains an energy bar in ~3 seconds, totaling 225 HP before empty
  • Energy takes 8 seconds to fully recharge after a 2-second delay
  • Passive tether has 5-second line-of-sight forgiveness, boosted heal only 1 second

Rushing Torrent – Ability 1

Wu Yang’s mobility tool:

  • +50% movement speed and +1.5m jump height for 4 seconds (1m → 2.5m jumps)
  • 8-second cooldown
  • Also synergizes with a minor perk for instant ammo/resource restoration

Guardian Wave – Ability 2

A versatile wave attack with different effects:

  • On allies: 80 HP heal + 50% bonus healing for 4 seconds (like friendly Ana nade)
  • On enemies: Knockback + up to 80 damage at <4m, scaling to 40 damage at 17.5m
  • Total travel range: 35m

Tidal Blast – Ultimate

Cast on yourself or an ally to:

  • Grant 400 overhealth instantly
  • After 3.5 seconds: 250 HP heal, 100 damage in a 7.5m radius, and 1.5s knockdown
  • Movement speed buff: 50% during most of ult, dropping to 20% just before detonation

Important interactions:

  • The wearer of the ultimate benefits from damage boosts
  • Some invulnerability abilities cancel it if mistimed (Mei Ice Block, Venture Burrow, Moira Fade, Doomfist Meteor Strike)
  • Reaper’s Wraith Form is fully safe to use
  • Works with mobility and teleport skills for creative delivery

Combos to try:

  • D.Va Bomb: Tidal Blast rides the mech into the explosion
  • Junker Queen Rampage: Adds knockdown to the anti-heal charge
  • Orisa Terra Surge: Time with pull for massive follow-up damage
  • Sombra Translocator / Kiriko Swift Step: Teleport right into the enemy team
  • Tracer Blink: Blink-delivered knockdowns with 575 total HP to keep you alive

Perks

Minor Perks

  • Overflow: +10 ammo and 33% healing resource instantly when activating Rushing Torrent
  • Balance: Hitting orbs increases passive Restorative Stream healing by 40% for 2 seconds

Major Perks

  • Ebb and Flow: Guardian Wave returns to you, doubling its effect (80 heal out + 80 heal back, damage on return is flat 40)
  • Falling Rain: Orbs split into three smaller orbs (-60% damage each, -25% explosion radius), higher total damage if all hit but harder to land

KarQ prefers Ebb and Flow for consistency early on, as Falling Rain’s spread makes it tricky to land full damage unless charged.

Wu Yang’s kit mixes long-range splash control, pocket healing, and creative initiation tools with his ultimate. This trial period is the perfect time to learn his orb control, healing management, and the many combos that can turn a fight.
